My name is Jane Colt. I’m not really a hacker, but my friend Corsair got me access to this blog. This is probably my only chance to tell the galaxy the truth about why I’m missing, so I’m taking it.
For those of you who don’t keep up with Kyderan news, here’s what the media would have you believe: that my brother tried to kill my father, and the trauma drove me nuts and caused me to go off the grid. My dad’s one of the most powerful people in the Interstellar Confederation, being the head of Quasar Bank Corporation, and those vultures who call themselves journalists pounced on a chance for a big story.
I don’t blame them for being so confident. The people who framed my brother did a good job. Hell, there are even eyewitnesses. But what they saw was an elaborately faked video, and whoever planted it erased their digital footprints. I don’t care what the evidence says—I know my brother, and I know he didn’t do it.
If you’ve read any of the articles they’ve written about me, you probably think I’m psychotic. No doubt they’ve dug up the story of what happened with me at a police station the day before Devin supposedly shot Dad. They say I came into the station raving about robots kidnapping my friend, Adam, when everyone knows he left on a religious retreat.
I didn’t imagine anything. I was there. I saw that machine carry Adam out, and then it came after me. I don’t know how I managed to escape, and I’m still marveling over the fact that I didn’t end up a bloody mess at the bottom of the elevator shaft. But whoever sent the machine covered it all up, so the only rational explanation, according to them, is that I’m crazy.
Okay, then, I’m crazy. I was crazy enough to lie to the police about Devin’s whereabouts, even though I’m pretty sure that makes me guilty of “obstruction of justice” or some crap. Then I did something even crazier: I jumped into Devin’s getaway ship and fled with him. He wasn’t happy about it, but I wasn’t about to take no for an answer.
I’ll keep doing crazy things until I find the bastards behind all this. Devin thinks the same people who framed him were also behind Adam’s kidnapping. Whoever they are, I’ll stop them, since apparently the authorities can’t.
You’re probably wondering where I am, but I can’t tell you. If I do, both the Kyderan authorities and the evil sons-of-bitches that framed Devin will catch up. They’ve got warships and killer robots and control over computers and who-knows-what-else. And what have I got? Well, I took some kickboxing classes back at university, but I doubt that’ll do me any good when they’ve got laser cannons. I can fly a starship… I think. Devin won’t let me take the controls.
Anyway, that’s my story so far. Don’t listen to a word anyone else says, because in this galaxy, anything can be fake.
